Bond University's Centre for New Media Research and Education polled 2009 households and 3708 individuals revealing that Australians overwhelmingly (88%) want an R rating for games, but most were not initially aware about the lack of a classification for games. It showed that parents were responsible when it comes to their kids and games, with 68 per cent of parents using the classification system, 76 per cent set rules about the games their children could play, and 87 per cent were present or gave permission when games were purchased. The average age of gamers was 24, and 38 percent of those gamers surveryed were female...
"This report proves beyond a doubt that video gaming is not just for children and is no longer the domain only of boys and men," he said. "Video gaming is something the majority of Australian households partake in on a regular basis and it is not consumed in an addictive manner," he said.
