GTA:San Andreas OFLC Verdict Due Today

The Sydney Morning Herald has reported that the OFLC will release their verdict today on whether Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas will retain or be refused classification in Australia after an internal investigation. In case you've missed out on what's been happening with the situation in America:

"The US Entertainment Software Rating Board changed its rating after Take Two Interactive, the parent company of the game maker Rockstar Games, confirmed the existence of the sex scenes.

Rockstar Games said it no longer made the current version of the game and was producing a new version. It said it would provide new labels to any US retailer willing to continue selling the version currently on store shelves, which is rated "M" for mature."

Here's the link to the OFLC news page where they should be making the announcement, and the GTA: San Andreas classification page.

Here we go again, the OFLC doing ANOTHER Manhunt....Seriously we are the only county to follow the stupid USA's pathetic investigation. This country is an independent one, why should whats happening in the US have any influence on this country what so ever?

Let me say this, if extreme violence is more acceptable in todays society then Sex, well this country & the people in it are truly fucked in the head...BIG TIME!

Sex is quite acceptable but because it is in a computer game where you are able to control what happens it is going to push the rating up... and as Australia still lacks an adult classification for games expect it to dissapear from our shelves.

I simply wish they would finally wake up and see what age the majority of gamers are and bring out the 18+ classification.

When are people gonna realise that these games aren't made for kids and if parents were responsible children would be unable to get their hands on such material. It's quite a simple solution. Would you let a five year old watch Pulp Fiction??? I don't think so.

They now realise most gamers are over 18,belive me i have written countless letters to goverment bodys. The reason was they aren't satifsfiyed such material would not be obtained by minors, wich is total fucken bullshit because they can keep X rated porn from minors. Unless the parents buy the game for there child then they can't get ahold of it.

These stupid fucking parents need to spend less time stuffing a donut into there mouth & more time properly raising there kids.

If there was an R rating, few retailers would stock it. X rated films are only available in canberra (legally). R rated games would have a similar stigma by department stores and non game specific stores and probably wouldn't be sold (which is what's happening in the states). No game publisher or developer would want that, which is why Rockstar are going to remove the Hot Coffee assets.

No. R rated movies are freely sold in department stores, video shops etc.

Why would it be any different for games? R rated porno is sold in just about every department store. AO games arnt sold in retail stores in the USA because they to be honest....Total pussys...

Retailers in this country are not scared like those morons in the US....We need an R rating & thats all there is to it. Australia has the most rediculeous classification system in the world & its need to be fixed ASAP.

    To Mick

To this day it baffles me why we aussies don't have r18 for games. The rest of the world has something like r18 and gta:sa in us is now ao18. I think its just old fashioned attitudes. I think pollies back in the 90's made up the classifications to help arcade shops stop kids playing games like mortal kombat. They did not think games would reach R18. However times have changed now i believe it needs to be put in. Since i cannot see this happening for some years (until howard retires or gets booted out!)
