Nocturnal Entertainment Australia announced today that it has entered into a joint initiative with the Melbourne International College to make 'Catapult Educational' available for two of its courses starting next semester.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for Nocturnal, giving us a foothold into the lucrative educational sector" says Nocturnal Entertainment CEO Michael Shamgar. "Catapult is a dream package for educational institutions. It is cheap, easy to use and attractive to students, exposing them to real game development within the industry".
Dzulkiflee Taib, a course coordinator for Melbourne International College added, "With Catapult, every student dream of creating a game that runs on actual Game Boy Advance hardware can be realised. Students will leave the college with a complete game that they can showcase to their future employer."
The joint initiative will include development of tutorials for the courses, cross promotion between the companies and collaboration on future projects.
Melbourne International College will use Catapult throughout its Diploma of Information Technology and Advanced Diploma in Multimedia courses, both focusing on game development.
Catapult fast-tracks the development of games and software for the GBA, by providing all development tools in a single integrated package.
At Catapult's core is a unique programming language designed around the hardware capabilities of the GBA. Catapult also includes an editor, emulator, debugger and extensive set of development tools. Catapult comes with a fully integrated (400+ page) users guide, 11 tutorials, and 12 sample projects (with complete source).
