Pixel Artist for tile-based mobile game Arcadia

Playscape Games are seeking artists interested in producing pixel art for our tile-based mobile phone game ?Arcadia? - a turn-based strategy game that aims to provide outstanding gameplay depth and usability, currently at playable prototype stage.

Playscape Games (www.playscapegames.com) is a Melbourne-based start-up partnership consisting of a software developer/designer & a producer/project manager, with the help of subcontractors. We are funded by a mix of our own capital and grants.

Arcadia graphics are composed from layered 24x24 or 32x30 pixel tiles representing terrain, structures, characters, units, monsters, resources, items, spell effects and so on. We are seeking an artist with the ability to create a coherently themed package that is visually appealing on a small screen and that informs and entertains the player.

Payment is by a piecework rate per tile delivered; if you express interest in this work we may ask you for a quote on this basis. Additionally, we are offering a bonus, based on profit sharing from game revenues, which would likely exceed upfront payment if the game is successful.

Applicants with a variety of backgrounds and skills are encouraged to apply. Qualities most important to us are the quality and cohesion of tile set you can create, and your ability to work harmoniously with us. An interest in fantasy/mythic/game art, and good computer skills, are important. Existing sample pixel or game art is an advantage. We will commission selected applicants to produce several test tiles for evaluation (on a payed basis) prior to full engagement.

We expect to need approximately 50 tiles total for the game, in PNG format, over a 6-month period starting mid 2005. In addition to supplying titles, you will be required to attend meetings in inner Melbourne every 2-4 weeks to review progress, discuss feedback, and plan future work.

To express interest, please email Louise at artsupply@playscapegames.com with a brief outline of your background, interest and availability. We will then send you more comprehensive details of the game concept and our terms of business, and invite you to provide us with a quotation.
