A Glimpse of Next-Gen

  • In my first and previous post in this game dev log entry, I had written that I wanted to do a game which was a collection of simple retro games. Unity released a new major release (2019.3) while I was putting the initial project together, and I…

  • Well, I'm making a game . I'm spending the next few weeks on making a small game to showcase the gamedev log feature on tsumea where any member can create a game entry and other members can post journal posts with art, music or just development…

  • Just a test #2. Still working on the new section.

  • So, I got a Commodore 64 when I was in the 4th grade. It came bundled with a Rolf Harris picture building program on casette tape which never loaded properly but from what I could tell by its box cover, you could build pictures from a selection…

  • Yes, the site looks very different and I've had to prematurely switch to this new theme that I'm working on for a few reasons, the main one is that changing certain aspects of the site to fit the new theme will affect how the old one looks for…

Here is some of my old work.. the first pic is of a 3d model of a human head I was working on about 2 years ago in 3dsmax, using nurbs. If I had to do it again, I wouldn't model a head with…

Speaking of TGS, expect a massive Microsoft presence there this year with their push into the Japanese market, we should see some really nice next-gen stuff in the coming days.

Microsoft at TGS was impressive, really impressive. Acctually xbox 360 looked really solid, great loking playable games etc. (Peronsally, go SONIC!)

But the thing that really struck me is the lack of lines to play anything on an xbox 360. The japanese really shunned it (apart from ridge racer 6). Just for comparision i waited 5 minutes to get a go of Need for speed Most Wanted, where as for Anything on the ps2 or GC (ie Anything Naruto, Gundam etc) the lines were hours long.

PS3 Looked unbelievable though, if they pull that off microsoft are in big trouble.

If this is the visual standard for all next-gen titles, we're in for a big treat. [:)]

Crytek's next-gen cry-engine shaky cam footage.. Has Day/night cycles, volumetric clouds, interactive/desctructable environments, soft shadows etc

The MGS4 trailer I was actually quite surprised by... it's the first game footage in a while that's actually created a bit of a buzz of excitement for me.

in terms of hardware capabilities, sony are taking the best route... in terms of developer support, they've got all the big names... in terms of development style, it's an annoying piece of poop to work on, even if you can push more pixel instructions and polys.

will be interesting which machine the western market will ultimately favour. For me personally, xbox360 is feeling just like a dirty piece of marketing fluff (especially after their e3 launch, you felt like a "potential customer unit" and their machine is the tv/console/communication equivelant of a nokia n-gage). Good luck to microsoft, they're going to change their whole business attitude to even scratch non-western markets.

I really thought the animation was superb. Whether or not they were motion captured, they really added something more to the visuals. Even the little things like the troops bouncing along realistically whilst sitting on top of the APC.

I would expect that MGS4 will look like that ingame, Kojima did the same thing with MGS2 back in the day. He showed the trailer and many believed it was just prerendered cutscenes but it turned out to be the real thing. Hopefully this happens again, and i dont see why not.

Metal Gear Solid series in my opion is one of the best games going around. Gameplay, nothing matches it, can't wait for number 4.

worst part about the level of detail on the ps3, having to buy a bigger tv to see it. I watched the triler on my pc first and then at the show on the big screen. Alot of things i never picked up seeing it the first time.

You know what's funny? All that crazy detail seen in the trailer seems to be a massive overkill for a game where you'll spend most of your time from a 3/4 top down view. [;)]

There's some new pics of Project Gotham Racing 3 up, and boy, that sure is looking fantastic. Still waiting to see it in motion though.

Is anyone else kinda surprised that the release date of the Xbox 360 is just next month? You'd kinda expect to hear a lot more of it, and especially the launch titles.

Either microsoft is very stressed right now, or they're hiding it well :)

Souri, it looks very nice in motion ;) ...as they say, it's eye candy that sells games.

This thread is rapidly becoming "a taste of current gen" which doesn't sound too fantastic [;)], but there are some new shots of Unreal Tournament 2007 here.

You'll have to copy and paste this links (or drag and drop). Some interesting things in the shots include the new tripod-like vehicle, and I think the new Leviathon like vehicle.
