You should check out some of the gaming sites where the posts on Nintendo's new console name number in the thousands, like Shacknews. It's quite amazing to see how many people are quite passionate over something like this. :D

Dont know why they needed to change the name from Revolution. Its been called the Revolution for a long time and everyone knows the name. It is rather stupid marketing to change the name now imo, however it's typical of nintendo, just think back to the "dolphin"... By the time the console comes out everyone will call it "wee" but it's going to take a while for the name transition to kick in. I also wont be surprised if the name Revolution is still around for some time.

Laugh all you like, I know I'll enjoy playing with my Wii.

I remember all the same objections when the Dreamcast wast announced (minus the scatological innuendo).

What a brilliant idea, change the name from the "Nintendo Revolution" to the "Nintendo Piss."

I don't know, just speculating here, but is Nintendo trying to tell us something about how well they think the console might actually just do... ?

Is someone in the marketing department implying that they are pissing away their future... ?

Lets not forget the name is aimed at the *public*, not developers or 'hard-core' gamers. They are definitely treading the same road as Apple did with the IPod.

Im not exactly big on the name, but it has generated a massive amount of publicity. I can also see why they announced it 2 weeks before E3... :P
(Revolution would have been a sucky name...)

Maybe it's just gonna be really really small (wee).

    Scott.

  • 11. 3MMAI - Thu, 4 May 2006 16:58:12Z
Well it's certainly caught most peoples attention. Maybe it's a japanese thing?
  • 12. CynicalFan - Fri, 5 May 2006 13:14:47Z
"Most people's attention"... if by that you mean those that work in the industry and gamers, most notably all the Nintendo fan-boys breaking out in a sweaty rash, then yeah, that is definitely everybody ;).
  • 13. CynicalFan - Fri, 5 May 2006 13:19:59Z
Did I mention that the sweaty rash was around their Wii... ?
  • 14. Priddo - Thu, 11 May 2006 22:23:0Z
Well it has made alot of people talk about it...look at this arrticle for example... 14 replies... others arouind it have next to none..
  • 15. It doesnt matter... - Tue, 23 May 2006 14:39:9Z
Well, if you want to know why they called it we its to empassize that it is for everyone.
i think changing the name from revolution tso Wii was good beacause look at all the publicity it has got out of all the people who have gone...wtf thats gay to the name they would have decided to check it out anyway because it doesnt really matter about the name it matters about its the conssole its self.Priddos write it made people talk about it.
I think itl be an awesome console andif anyone hasnt seen the console in action go to the official sit witch is on google if u type Nintendo Wii (itl have fresh experiences video as one of its video on the home page)(i think its the first site found by google) ......... Dont look at its graphics (there done by a gamecube)look at the controller its way cool.Whatch both of them there oth good.

And all I can say and do is repeat myself: made who talk about it?

Have a hard think about that one ;).

  • 19. it doesnt matter... - Tue, 23 May 2006 15:37:34Z
people like us.Everyone who has heard the name of it basically.
  • 20. CynicalFan - Tue, 23 May 2006 15:51:5Z
People like you, who are Nintendo Fan-boys ;) Everyone else doesn't give a sh*t. That is the reality.

As to whether the Wii will be a success or not, well time will tell on that, but my guess is that it will be a second console people buy to sit along side their PS3 or X360. Maybe Nintendo will expand their market and the gaming market for that matter, and bring in more female gamers and older gamers. But that is yet to be seen and measured as fact. My opinion is that it will not out do the PS3 in market size based on the success of the PS2, XBOX and GCUBE.

Make all the fan-boy claims you want, but my cynicism tells me that a fan-boy's opinion is usually far from reality - Nintendo Virtual Boy anyone... ?

  • 21. CynicalFan - Tue, 23 May 2006 15:58:11Z
I might add that if any console has the potential of breaking the trend, of increasing the gaming market, or having phenomenal success. Then the Wii is probably going to be it, but, I think the chances of that are pretty small.
  • 22. it doesnt matter... - Fri, 26 May 2006 10:12:12Z
yeh.i aint a Nintendo fan i like xbox's the best but i think the controller is cool so thats why i would buy it not really any other reson and probly coz its different.yeh i dont think it will either but u cant go on what happen with the gamcube because it was shoking compared to xbox and ps2 but this nintendo is different from the rest of the consoles so i think it will attract a bit more attention but i think ps3 and xbox wil sell better.
  • 23. CynicalFan - Fri, 26 May 2006 19:11:47Z
The XBOX didn't do much better than the GCUBE in unit sales actually, but, considering it was Microsoft's first attempt in the console arena, I suppose out doing a long running competitor in the videogame market is something to hype / boast about.
