Environmental Artists (Level Builders)

- Minimum of 1 game shipped or 2+ years of experience in the games industry OR for an entry level position exceptional skills in level building that are demonstrable.
- Exceptional skills in the areas of modelling, mapping, lighting and texturing low polygon models using 3D Studio Max and Photoshop.
- The ability to work without supervision to create high-quality environments efficiently. Experience with scripting to create gameplay events in levels.
- Enjoy being part of a creative team and contributing to the creative process.
- Strong portfolio of work demonstrating key areas of expertise. Examples should include working levels where appropriate.

3D Character Artists

- Minimum 2 games already completed or 4+ years industry experience and 1 game shipped. Entry level positions also considered.
- Exceptional 2D character illustration skills. Highly experienced in 3D Studio Max, Character Studio & Photoshop. Exceptional animation skills using Character Studio.
- Experience using raw mocap data and motion capture files.
- The ability to work without supervision to create high-quality works of art efficiently. Enjoy being part of a creative team and contributing to the creative process.
- Strong portfolio of work demonstrating key areas of expertise.
- Examples should include both high-poly (high-detail) and low-poly modelling.

3D character Animators

Qualities include:

- Very strong character animation skills that demonstrate a broad portfolio of abilities and styles.
- Excellence in character rigging and creation for 3D animation.
- Experienced using Character Studio or other animation packages.
- Can work to deadlines and milestones.
- A passion for games.
- A strong command of 3D Max's animation tools.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of self-direction.
- Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Receptive to animation direction and perform well within a collaborative team environment.
- Responsive to deadlines and works well under pressure.

Requirements:
A reel demonstrating outstanding character animation / acting abilities; a strong understanding of the principles of animation; the physics of motion, and a wide breadth of stylistic versatility.

    Are the period of experience and previous games shipped as essential as the skills? Surely someone can be good at what they do without having a number of years in the specific industry or a game under their belt? How are we supposed to break into the industry?

    Red Tribe are a relatively small company so therefore probably want more experienced people. The bigger companies like IR Gurus, Krome, Pandemic etc are probably willing to take on more promising juniors.

    Recently there has been a lot more information coming out of Red Tribe. I spoke to one of their guys over the weekend, at the Egames Expo. They will end up being one of the largest developers locally there's no doubt about that now given the number of people they are hiring. The budgets they are getting are huge compared to other local studios. They're hiring much more aggressively too. They really need the staff unlike some developers who just keep their ads running in the hopes of pickup up one or two new recruits (you know who you are). Salaries internally are being boosted too which is good to see. Two IR Gurus' senior engineers are heading over to Red Tribe. That would make a total of 4 people that have left IR for Red Tribe over the last 12 months.

    The budgets are big, but the deadlines are really tight and the overtime schedule is large. They really need staff because people keep leaving!

    Hahaha, nice try :) The turnover rate is low, probably too low, We rarely do overtime and the timelines are very healthy. That's the whole point. Big budgets, longer timelines, little if any overtime and we even get an extra 2 weeks of annual leave every year, that's a nice Christmas break for all of us this year :) We all know what some of the other studios are like so cut the crap.

    That's the great thing about working on such large titles. No 12 month schedules here. There's a large number of people working here now, you better get your facts straight mate cause you're pissing off a lot of hard working people. Get your facts straight and play fair, Redtribe is a great local studio, one of the best. There's plenty of people out there to hire so stop the dirty tactics, it's not necessary.

    Yeah I went for a interview for red tribe back in january of this year, and I was from IR Gurus.

    Interesting company and will be interesting to see how they go. Chris Mosely seemed to be focused on not having a staff that were working in sweat shop conditions.

    I ended up going elsewhere though and I'm pretty happy now compared to the position I had at IR Gurus, but I've heard they improved their game quite a bit lately.

    Please note that the REDTRIBE offices will be closed from the 21st of December through to the 8th of January for the Christmas & New Year break. We will continue interviewing right up to the 21st and then commence again after the 8th of January.
