We made it on TV once

Control Freaks was a regular Channel 7 TV show that appeared on our sets back in 2002 when games coverage on local tv was a scarcity. I think it may have been the first ever gaming show on local TV. Control Freaks piqued our interest since they began to fit in coverage of the local games development industry with their games reviews and gaming news. On their very first show, they were promised a tour and interview Ratbag games, so we saw fit to make a post about it on Sumea. Promoting the local games industry through national broadcast TV to gaming loving youngsters? Nice! We had a small discussion about the show from 2002 which some of you crustier members may be interested in reading up again. It just so happens that Control Freaks returned the favour in 2004 by mentioning Sumea in one of their shows amongst a list of local gaming centered websites including Gamenation (which I don't think is any longer around) and Ausgamers. Thanks to Matt.K for forwarding me video footage of our first and probably last appearance on TV which you can check out below here! If I can be a bit modest, the site did look pretty snazzy even back then! The old Sumea ran on a content management system written entirely by myself using classic asp and an access database, and contained a fairly large amount of functionality for back then.

Looked pretty good then.

There was a time when you went a bit crazy though Souri :)

Then you got back on the reins in recent years.

Crazy? How do you mean? haha

Oh, yeh, there were quite a few site re-designs I've done which, when I look back now, was pretty out of it.

I think "The Zone" was the first video game show for Australia, back in 94. Awesome show.

"I wanna take you to a place you've never been before..."
