A media report by PricewaterhouseCoopers has forecasted $1.2 billion in revenue for the games industry by 2009, double the sales it recorded last year. What does this mean to the local industry? The Courier Mail has the low down...
The report, released earlier this month, bodes well for Brisbane as it is home to about 40 per cent of Australia's games development industry, which exports $100 million of its wares annually. The growth of the industry is already being felt by Fortitude Valley-based Pandemic Studios, which has produced games for consoles like Playstation 2 and Xbox including Dark Reign, Army Men RTS and Destroy All Humans!
The Australian office of the American-based company is in the midst of hiring an additional 20 people to produce its games and development director Gordon Moyes said Brisbane was the epicentre of games development.
There's that epicentre word again :)
Woot!
Go Brisbane!
Dark Reign - try Auran not Pandemic. And yes that word again!!!
Actually Pandemic Brisbane started up with some of the guys that did Dark Reign, so it's partially true.
w00t, Brizzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzy rox w00t w00t
Yup, Brisbane's game dev scene is going nuts!
Bryn, I'm sure the Courier Mail meant to say "Dark Reign 2".
- Auran wrote the original Dark Reign
- Activision wrote the Dark Reign: Rise of the Shadowhand expansion pack
- Pandemic wrote Dark Reign 2
