Blue Tongue Entertainment, a video game developer based in Melbourne, Australia.
Blue Tongue currently has 80 employees and is part of THQ Inc- a leading worldwide developer and publisher of interactive entertainment software. The company has developed for all popular video game systems, and has experience in many genres.
Blue Tongue Entertainment was founded in October 1995. Titles produced include AFL Finals Fever (PC), Starship Troopers (PC), Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis (PS2/Xbox/PC) and more recently Barnyard (PS2/GameCube/PC/Wii) and Nicktoons Battle for Volcano Island (PS2/GameCube). The studio is currently working on two new titles, an action-adventure game for Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony Playstation 2, and Nintendo Wii, and a new IP exclusive to the Nintendo Wii. Game Systems Programmer
An opportunity exists for a talented programmer to join the Technology Team at THQ Bluetongue Entertainment. This is a unique opportunity to work on defining and implementing the systems code for Bluetongue's next-generation game engine for Playstation3 and Xbox 360.
Job Role:

  • Research and development of new technologies for Playstation3 and Xbox 360.
  • Development of reusable systems architecture.
  • Completion of programming tasks in accordance with the technical schedule.
  • Functional testing and documentation of all code.

Job Requirements:

  • Strong C/C++ skills.
  • Specialist knowledge in at least one area of game systems programming.
  • Proven experience working in a game systems programming environment.
  • A strong documentation ethic.
  • Ability to follow a coding standard closely.
  • Ability to make accurate estimates on design and implementation of systems programming tasks.

Advantages:

  • Experience working on Playstation 3 and/or Xbox 360 platforms as a systems programmer.
  • Knowledge of multicore and/or multithreaded programming techniques.
  • CELL BBE familiarity.

Tools Programmer
An opportunity exists for a talented programmer to join the Technology Team at THQ Bluetongue Entertainment. This is a unique opportunity to work on defining the tools and technology for the company's push to next-generation games for Xbox 360 and Playstation3.
Role

  • Development of tools and technology in the support of game development teams.
  • Training and tuition of developers in the use of tools and technology.
  • Support and maintenance of tools.
  • Design and implementation of game content pipelines.
  • Reports to the Technical Director.

Job Requirements

  • Strong C/C++.
  • Strong C# and experience writing and maintaining managed code.
  • Experience with defining tools and content generation pipelines for at least one shipping game, or similar work-related experience.
  • A strong documentation ethic.
  • Ability to train and mentor content creators in the use of tools created.
  • Experience with Perl, BAT and other common scripting language alternatives.

QA Programmer
The QA Programmer will be responsible for developing and maintain various tools used by the Quality Assurance team. This includes the auto build system for all projects.This will involve the creation and maintenance of scripts, macros, build reports and the maintenance of required build applications and development tools (e.g. SDKs, compilers, exporters, level editors etc).This role will also involve the maintenance of the bug and task database application and associated scripts. This position will report directly to the Lead QA Tester.
Position:-

  • Development of QA related tools (Some tools may be used across both Australian sites)
  • Maintain the auto build system including updates to SDKs and other development tools, implementation of additional functionality requested by the QA Manager and Project Manager.
  • Maintain the bug tracking system and scripts including the implementation of additional functionality requested by the QA Manager
  • Maintain the tasks tracking system and scripts including the implementation of additional functionality requested by the project managers.
  • Support testing staff
  • Clear and concise communication of all issues

Requirements:-

  • Enthusiasm and knowledge of video games in general
  • Programming experience (Preferred languages are: C++, C#/.NET),
  • Scripting languages (VBScript, Game Monkey Script, Lua).
  • Experience using Visual Studio.NET
  • Game industry experience an advantage
  • University degree in Computer Science desired

Technical Artist
The Technical Artist is responsible for ensure efficiency of the art pipeline and non-game-specific documentation and providing technical and art support to teams where appropriate. This position will report directly to the Lead Artist.

  • Research and develop process and tools to support future art development.
  • Understanding the needs of current and future game development as it relates to art; including shaders, optimal graphical performance and visual effects.
  • Designing shaders and visual effects.
  • Research and implement competitive production techniques.
  • Work closely with all disciplines, but especially the technology teams.
  • Identify and recommend software and hardware needs.
  • Provide both technical and creative support to art teams as required.

  • Proven technical art skills.
  • Proficiency in MELScript or MAXScript programming
  • Strong knowledge of Maya and 3dsmax.

Animator
The Animator is responsible for setting up and animating 3D characters generated by the art department. The successful applicant will be able to Creating world-class animations for organic and inorganic models. This position will report directly to the Lead Artist.
Position:-

  • Character rigging and Character modeling when necessary
  • Character texturing when necessary
  • Constructing bone rigs and painting skins for existing models
  • Lip synching and facial animation for scripted sequences

Requirements:-

  • Games industry experience
  • Proven animation skills (2 and 4 legged characters)
  • Proven modeling skills and texturing skills
  • An ability to create natural motion, quickly and with ease
  • knowledge of Maya animation system
  • Expert in Max5, Character studio (especially biped), Photoshop

Junior Animator
The Animator is responsible for setting up and animating 3D characters generated by the art department. The successful applicant will be able to create world-class animations for organic and inorganic models. This position will report directly to the Lead Artist.
Required skills:-

  • Proven animation skills (a range of examples which could include 2 or 4 legged characters, dialogue, cartoon or realistic animation)
  • An ability to create natural motion, quickly and with ease
  • knowledge of rigging with Max or Maya
  • attention to detail

  • Proven modeling skills and texturing skills
  • Extensive knowledge of Maya or Max tools
  • Formal art qualification

Visual Effects Artist
The Visual Effects Artist will be responsible for creating visual effects. This position will report directly to the Lead Artist.

  • Demonstrable illustration or design background
  • Experience creating visual effects with Max or equivalent 3D packages
  • Familiarity with Photoshop
  • Attention to detail
  • Industry experience

Environment Artist
The Environment Artist will be responsible for modeling & texturing 3D environments. This position will report directly to the Lead Artist.

  • Familiarity with Photoshop.
  • Proven ability in 3D environment creation.

Junior Artist/Level Designer
The Level Designer is responsible for designing, object placement and scripting of the world in a game. This position will be working on a new IP on the Nintendo Wii system, this is a fantastic opportunity for someone that's looking to break into the industry, or if you are just looking for an interesting and original project to be part of. This position will report directly to the Lead Designer.
Position:-

  • Create and execute level design documents
  • Place game objects throughout a world
  • Set up scripts on objects
  • Tune and balance levels, puzzles, triggers and effects

Requirements:-

  • Game industry experience an advantage
  • Proven ability to design engaging gaming experiences
  • Ability to think and be familiar with 3D space
  • Knowledge of 3D art tools
