The highly anticipated press conference held by Sony at E3 has ended just moments ago. Some new details of the event include the simultaneous launch date of the PS3, and it will come in two configurations: The 20 gigabyte PS3 will cost $499 (US) while the 60gb PS3 will be $599 (US). 2 million will be available worldwide at launch, and we'll be seeing them in our neck of the woods in November the 17th, the same date it is released in America and Europe.
Apart from the usual fare of amazing demos, the new PS3 controller was also revealed. Sony has been rather secretive about the widely hated "batarang" controller for the PS3, but it seems they've buckled under all that negative feedback and reverted to the usual shape and design of the previous controller, albeit with a new coat of silver. It also has an "innovative feature" of sensing 6 degrees of movement without needing any sensors or connections to the main console - it's all in the controller. A rather puzzling demonstation of the controller followed where a game developer seemed to be fighting to control and fly a futuristic plane, finishing the demonstration off with a rather awkard landing of the plane on the edge of a landing pad.
