Ninemsn has an article on the hopes of the local Aussie games industry for some muchly needed tax incentives coming from Tuesday's budget. It comes at an important time as the local contigent of developers head towards the E3 convention to meet publishers and sort out deals...
"We look forward to the budget on Tuesday," Evelyn Richardson, president and chief executive of the Game Developers' Association of Australia (GDAA) who heads the Australian E3 delegation, told AAP."We'll see if there is anything in there."
"We want a level playing field," Richardson said.
"We don't want to take away from the film industry, but we certainly want access to the same incentives they have.
"We should be promoting ourselves as an entertainment one stop shop internationally whether you are doing games, film, new media or whatever."
While Australia's biggest independent gaming companies had increased the number of gaming developer employees from 335 last year, to 483 in 2006, Richardson warned the industry could all come crashing down without government incentives.
