Salary Range: $57 708 to $64 308 pa full‐time*
Superannuation: Employer contribution of 9% of salary

Employment Type: Fixed‐term (18 months), full‐time

KEY PURPOSE
The Research Associate will be involved in a programme being undertaken at
Flinders University in the research and development of simulation technologies for
medicine and health related applications. In particular, the Research Associate will
be involved in the development of a virtual reality based simulator for upper airway
management. The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team,
and will be expected to contribute to some, but not necessarily all, aspects of the
programme relating to software development.

SELECTION CRITERIA
(Note for intending applicants – applicants should address each selection criterion
individually and should argue their case by citing evidence to support their claims
rather than presenting a list of facts only).
Essential criteria
• A degree in a relevant area, plus several years experience in software
development
• Skills in mathematics (linear algebra) and software engineering
• The ability to communicate effectively in English
• The ability to contribute to publishing and presenting scientific results
• Previous experience in developing in C/C++
Desirable criteria
• Applied knowledge of software engineering (and design) principles
• Previous experience in OpenGL or DirectX
• Experience developing software for real‐time applications (multi‐threading,
performance profiling)
• Previous experience in developing virtual reality applications
• Experience using and administering configuration management tools (e.g. CVS)
• Previous experience with real‐time physics simulations and haptics
• Interest and experience in simulation for medical training
